The reality TV show, Love It or List It pushes families to the brink of making a choice of staying in their current space or moving to a new home. The interior designer meets with the family to determine their wants and why they like their current home. The family sets a budget and presents a wish list for what needs to be changed for them to remain in their current home. At the same time the real estate agent seeks to lure the family into a new home. By providing upgrades and renovations, the home’s value increases for resale. So whether they love it or list it, the homeowners come out on top.
When Interior Designer, Catherine Montague works with a family, she takes the time to understand the needs and wants of the space as it relates to the family’s lifestyle. She’ll make sure any upgrades fit your current needs now…but will consider future lifestyle needs and changes as well.
Kitchens are the number one upgrade for both a family’s comfort, as well as to add value for a home’s resale. The look and feel of a kitchen can be changed with something as simple as paint and a new backsplash. Tile comes in many shapes, sizes and colors.
Appliances can be upgraded with stainless steel. The cold feel of steel is a hot ticket item for buyers. Transition your appliances to a new finish as they wear out. Coordinate a similar metallic look in your light switches. Rolling islands and granite countertops will go a long way toward your kitchen’s upgrade.
Beautify your bathroom. Next to the kitchen, the bathroom receives a lot of wear and tear. Keep it functioning well and make upgrades along the way. Upgrades to faucets and installation of under-mount or pedestal sinks can freshen up an outdated bathroom. Granite or marble countertops with glass bowl sinks are also popular.
Nix the overhead lighting in favor of wall mounts to add warmth and value to your bathroom. Make sure that around your mirror you have even lighting with no side shadows.
Upgrade your bath area. Imagine stepping out of the bath and onto a heated floor. With an 85 percent return on your investment upgrade, install a shower with body sprays and stone surround tile. Keep your tiles and grout clean. Dirt and grime can become embedded in bathroom surfaces very quickly. If this is the case, freshen it up with new grout.
As you upgrade, it may become more difficult to leave the comforts of home. Want to know where to start? Give Catherine Montague at Green Design Innovation a call.
